Welcome back to Last Night’s Numbers. For those of you who are new to LNN and Hickory-High, last season I quickly recapped each game pulling out a few numbers that I thought were especially interesting. The compressed season this year means more games every night and consequently things are going to look slightly different.
Instead of hitting each game, I plan to identify a handful of notable individual performances. I’ve also added the new feature of looking at some extremely successful five-man lineup combinations. The box score numbers all come from Hoopdata’s advanced box scores. The lineup data is from Popcorn Machine’s Game Flows.
I’m trying something new today, an awkward manipulation of a terrific recap tool developed by Zarar Siddiqi of Raptors Republic. I apologize for the funky formatting. Hopefully things will look cleaner tomorrow.
|Andrew Bynum, C 8-15 FG | 5-8 FT | 22 REB | 0 AST | 21 PTS |+17 | Bynum was an absolute beast. 6 of his 22 rebounds came on the offensive glass. He finished the game with an ORB% of 19.9, and a DRB% of 39.5.|
|Kyle Lowry, PG 8-19 FG | 2-2 FT | 10 REB | 9 AST | 22 PTS | -7 | Lowry’s dynamic all-around effort unfortunately wasn’t enough against Kobe, Bynum and the Lakers. He was 3 of 4 on shots at the rim, but just 1 of 6 on the rest of his two-point shots. His TRB% of 13.5% was higher than every Laker except Bynum.|
|Kyrie Irving, PG 8-10 FG | 2-2 FT | 3 REB | 6 AST | 20 PTS | +15 | Irving has continued to shine in his rookie season. His 20 points against the Bobcats came on a 91.9 TS%. He scored at the rim, going 4-5, and from the outside, knocking down 3-4 from outside of 16ft. Five of his six assists went for layups or three-pointers. It was a hyper-efficient offensive performance.|
|LaMarcus Aldridge, PF 10-19 FG | 10-12 FT | 8 REB | 1 AST | 30 PTS | +11 | Aldridge was the difference for the Trail Blazers in a huge win against the Thunder. His 30 points came on a 61.9 TS%. He was 6-9 on shots at the rim and 4-6 on long two-pointers. Throw in 10-12 at the free throw line and you’re really looking at something special.|
